“If you want to understand the truth in martial arts, to see
any fight clearly, you must throw away the notion of
styles or schools, prejudices, likes and dislikes, and so
forth. Then, your mind will cease all conflict and come to
rest. In this silence, you will see totally and freshly.”
– Bruce Lee
These techniques have been seen in movies such as the Bourne Series, the Hunted, Taken, Rapid Fire (Brandon Lee) & the 007 movies (Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace).
Our Thursday Combat Muay Thai classes includes:
This class is taught by Head Instructor Grant Bacon. The DCU Combat Muay Thai class focuses on precise, powerful and explosive strikes and striking combination’s, from a reality-combat based perspective, for the ring/cage or for the street. This is a hybrid system. Not necessarily “true” Muay Thai, as in the sport-styled Muay Thai instruction that is prevalent today. Instead, it could more aptly be called Muay Boron; an original Thai martial-military combat style, that was the precursor and foundation of today’s Muay Thai sport.
This class will focus on the realities of striking with and without gloves. Footwork & mobility is strictly emphasized, as standing and trading with any opponent (trained or untrained), is a gamble that no instructor should ask their student’s to take. Muay Thai fundamentals (“eight limbs” striking, clinch/”plum” positioning, heavy knee/elbow use emphasis) are included and essential, but new and unique applications of these techniques and positions will be shown. The hybridization and return to the older art comes in the forms of weapons (blade and stick/staff; offense and defense) instruction from a Thai striking base, as well as throws, trips (reaps and sweeps), take-downs, chokes, and other “grappling” & clinch applications will be taught. Muay Thai fighters are renowned for their conditioning and fitness and this class will give you a great calorie burning, heart thumping workout. Be prepared to sweat!
